A poor man, who was hungry, came out of his house. He did not know where to go. He wandered around the streets. He walked and walked and walked until near sunset he reached the masjid. He looked at a few people who were standing together and chatting. He went up to them and asked for help. They looked at him but no one helped him. The man, hopeless, turned back. Then, he heard a sound and looked around. One person was calling him. The person who called him took out a coin and gave it to him. The rest of the people saw what happened and they, too, took out coins from their pockets and gave them to him. The poor man counted the coins, became happy, and prayed for all of them.
Prophet Muhammad (s) was happy with the actions of his friends. He turned towards the man who first gave help to the poor man and said: "Whoever does a good action and others learn from him and then they also perform a good action, that person will receive a reward from God equal to all of them together."
